Do you envision a romantic retreat, but your reality is a bedroom that's a chaotic mass of confusion? Follow these five tips and in less than a weekend, you will create a delightful, yet inexpensive, haven that can put the sizzle back into your life.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><strong>Tip #1: Color.</strong> If your bedroom is blah or conversely has riotous color, consider painting it a soothing blue, green, light grey, or my personal favorite, a cozy hot chocolate. The color will set the tone of your room. If you adore hot colors, use these colors on accessories instead of the walls. Your bedroom should be a calming oasis in the chaos that is your life. Cost: Under $50. Time: Half a day.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><strong>Tip #2: Focal Point.</strong> Your bed should be the focal point of your bedroom. If you have a big entertainment center, you will need to put more emphasis on your bed. If you do not have a large headboard, you can create the illusion of one by hanging a large piece of art or rug behind the bed. You can also make a large but inexpensive headboard by padding and then stapling fabric to a piece of plywood. Alternately, you can paint the wall a contrasting color than the rest of the room. Stack pillows instead of the standard two. Add layers of bedding to give yourself luxury. Don't depend on thread counts for quality, see how the sheets actually feel to the touch. Consider putting a thin blanket between the sheets for an easy upscale feel. Cost: Can be under $100. Time: Half a day.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><strong>Tip #3: Stress Free Adult Zone. </strong>The master bedroom is not the place for photos of anyone in your life that causes you stress, even if its family. Move these photos to other rooms in the house. It is time to remove the clutter so that you don't feel overwhelmed when you enter the room. Either put away, donate, sell or discard anything that clutters up your room. Today is also the day to stop paying bills in your bedroom. Move it to the dining table if you don't have a desk. Bottom line, remove all sources of stress from your master bedroom. Cost: Free Time: A couple of hours.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><strong>Tip #4: Add Romantic Lighting</strong>. Here's a quick way to soften your room instantly: Change some of the light bulbs in your bedroom to a lower wattage or colored bulbs. A pink bulb will make you look radiant. Cost: Under $20. Time: Five minutes.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><strong>Tip #5: Add Ambiance: </strong>Don't stop at just the lighting. Appeal to all of the senses. Cost: Under $100, Time: Five minutes.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"></div><ul style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 2em; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Touch: Soft, sensuous bedding</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Smell: Display and use fragrant candles and potpourri</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Sound: Consider a mini table fountain and soft background music</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Taste: Put out a small tray of decadent wrapped dark chocolate</li>
</ul><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">If you take a weekend to do these five tips, your new master bedroom will also delight the fifth sense, sight, as you finally create the romantic and relaxing haven you deserve.</div><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px;"><br />

It leads to a legendary wishing well that people travel to from all over the world. Tens of thousands of people have walked upon that stone path to make a wish or dream a dream. The stones are worn and shiny but the path just becomes more magical as the decades go by.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">A patio or walkway made of natural stone shares a bit of that magic found in the path to the Irish wishing well. Maybe it's because they a share a history which spans the globe. Look for a stone mason who specializes in natural stone patio floors and garden paths. If they are properly placed, they may last for generations.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">You may choose from flagstone, uncut stones, or paving stones. Each type of stone creates an entirely different outdoor floor.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">· <strong>Flagstones</strong> - are natural hard stones which are broken or fractured into broad, flat sections. Good flagstone is extremely hard and smooth. You can see the quality of flagstone by looking at the edge. If the edges crumble easily it's an indication of poor quality. Flagstones can be made of slate, limestone and stand stone. Marble flagstone is used for very high end projects. The cost of flagstone can vary greatly depending on your geographical location. Metamorphic rock is heavy and very expensive to ship, certain varieties may cost three or four times more in one area of the country compared to another. If you are concerned about costs, ask about the availability of local stones.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">· <strong>Naturally shaped stones </strong>- Old fashioned cobble stone paths use whole, naturally shaped stones. This creates a nostalgic look, but the path may be slightly uneven or bumpy. Remember the smaller the stone, the more even the path or floor. Small rock combinations like Mexican pebble and salmon stone can create a dynamic multicolored design<strong>.</strong></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">· <strong>Pavers - </strong>Manufactured paving stones with simulated stone veneer can achieve the look of natural stone for an affordable price. They are available in many fun shapes and sizes. Paving stones can be square, round, and every shape in between. Since colors and dyes can be added to pavers, there is a wide range of colors.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">· <strong>Brick -</strong> No list of stone paths would be complete without mentioning clay masonry brick. After all Dorothy found true friends and a wizard as she skipped down her yellow brick road and they've been appearing in gardens and patios ever since.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Natural stone, paver stone, and brick patios and floors can be laid tightly to inhibit the growth of grass and plants between the cracks, however some stones are laid so grass can natural integrate into the cracks to create a natural appearance.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Take a few minutes to look at your entire property before choosing a particular color or variety of stone. Keep other features such as a stone wall, driveway, or fire pit in mind so each element compliments and does not detract from the other.</div><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px;"><br />

Its low-key illumination gives a dramatic touch to each room of the house. Recessed lighting fixtures are embedded into the ceiling. That's why you find no switches, dangling cords, lampshades, bulbs or anything that interrupts your view. You just see glowing discs of light directed at an object like a painting, table, or shelf. There are different types of recessed lighting that provide different varieties of lighting depending on their bulbs, housing, and trim.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">A complete recessed lighting mechanism comprises several parts. Varying on their combinations, they will produce a light that can be focused and bright, diffuse and soothing, or middle-of-the-road lying between the extremes. The housing or can, the first vital part, is the electrical fixture that positions the light and makes power available to the bulb.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">The housing will determine what bulbs you choose - fluorescent, halogen, or incandescent. Fluorescent lights can cut your expenditure; halogens can be acquired in low voltage varieties and incandescent bulbs provide a warm, familiar glow whose brightness can be varied with the help of a dimmer switch.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">There are reflectors inside the housing, which are domes that bounce light downward into the room that needs it the most. Diffusers are discs of glass or plastic that change the light in some way. Normally, people install an array of fixtures to meet all the varying requirements of separate areas of a room.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Recessed lighting has another part called the trim. A decorative element, it is the most visible piece of material that lays flat against the ceiling. The trim can be white plastic so that it blends in with the ceiling, or be tinted for a touch of color.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Recessed lighting fixtures come in various forms and can be utilized in a number of imaginative ways. These "secret" agents of illumination can really add drama and sparkle to your house.</div><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px;"><br />

So again, please talk it among between the two of you on which option you prefer. Some modern double bathroom vanities come with different closets or integrated ones. And for mirrors, you may also want to choose the shape and size that you are most comfortable with. The idea is that both of you are happy with your choice.</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><b>Summary</b></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">At the end of the day, you and your spouse should be happy with your pick. <div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">One way to really save money on an outdoor kitchen is to build it yourself. You really only need a few days, in fact, you can easily accomplish building an outdoor kitchen in a few weekends. It is especially helpful if you have some people to help you. Maybe you have other friends interested in building an outdoor kitchen. Consider helping each other out and take turns building outdoor kitchens for each other.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Outdoor kitchen plans can easily be found online, or if you prefer you may visit your local hardware store<br />
to purchase plans. When you are looking at plans, be sure to get a cost estimate for the completed project<br />
and add 10% to that estimate to cover any incidentals. Also keep in mind that an outdoor kitchen will definitely add value to your home. So while you want to be careful about how much you are spending, you also need to keep in mind that you are adding value to your property by building an outdoor kitchen.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">After choosing a plan you can save some money by being careful where you purchase your supplies. If you are building a brick or a stone outdoor kitchen, it would be worthwhile to check with a local building supply company for any discontinued or "extra" materials they may want to get rid of at low cost. For example, I've known people who got stone at ½ price because the wrong color was ordered for a job, so the company wanted to get rid of it and sold it cheap. These are the types of deals you can look for. If you are a real planner, you can start designing at the end of the summer to build next summer. That way you have plenty of time to look for deals.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Before you go running off to buy your supplies, you should map out, in your yard, exactly where the outdoor kitchen will be located. Do this BEFORE your purchase any supplies so you will know that you will be happy with the size and placement of the kitchen. You will also want to do this so you will not be surprised by an obstacles in the middle of building that may add cost to the project.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">After choosing the plan getting a cost estimate and mapping out the kitchen, you can start to purchase supplies. All this time there is no need to purchase cabinets or appliances. Build the outdoor kitchen<br />
first, then you add the furnishing.</div><span><br />

<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">People shopping for a new home are often in search of similar things. While each family and potential home buyer will have a different idea in mind for their dream home, there are some things that are sure winners for everyone. There are the things you should focus on if you think you will be selling your home any time soon. While you may not want to invest a ton of money in a home you plan to leave, you will see a return on your investment during the sale and the upgrades you make will lure in additional buyers. Your first change should be to make sure your home offers plenty of storage opportunities. Mini storage buildings with roll up doors on the property give homeowners a place to store the things they do not use year-round. Since a lot of families are downsizing, it is important to offer storage because their new, smaller home will not have the space for all of their stuff.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">One of the greatest enhancements you can add to your home is landscaping. There are plenty of people who will drive by your home and see the for sale sign out front. If they fall in love with the exterior of your home; it will make the curious about the interior. Taking pride in the exterior of your home is a great way to let buyers know they are getting a great value. If you have taken the time to landscape outside, potential buyers will be confident you have cared for interior maintenance issues.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">A great way to attract potential buyers is to upgrade the security system in your home. While security is not as bold as colorful flowers or a new paint job, it offers security to potential home buyers. Families are concerned about the safety of their loved ones and they will appreciate a home that has a high level of built-in security. A security system offers protection from break-ins, but also provides peace of mind when it comes to household fires and other dangers.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">In addition to great landscaping, there are plenty of other outdoor upgrades you can make. If potential home buyers feel like you have created an outdoor room, it will feel as if your home is larger. They can expand their living space outdoors, making it seem as if they are getting more bangs for their buck. Installing things like a swimming pool, a water feature like a fountain or building outdoor kitchens are all great investments and increase the value of your home.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Finally, look for a few inexpensive upgrades to make. Adding accessories to your home help it feel cozier and more of a lived in space. While you want potential buyers to be able to picture themselves in the home, it is still alright to add some accents to enhance the space. Look for items that are neutral and appeal to a wide variety of people. The more people you get to come into your home and exclaim how much they like it, the quicker your home will sell because people will see the value you have added.</div><span><br />

<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Money spent updating your kitchen rewards you better than money spent on any other upgrades to your home. When it comes to kitchens, buyers continue to demand improvement in efficiency and style, and they love remodeled kitchens and new appliances.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Even if you home costs less than the newer homes in your area, buyers view the model homes and hold the ideal in mind while home shopping.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Newer homes place kitchens open to the family room and often have wide views of the outside. Newer homes also boast larger kitchens with more than one preparation area because cooking has become a social activity, and new homes often include a bar or buffet for entertaining. Cooks want to be in the middle of family activities so they can enjoy companionship.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Buyers look for a kitchen with large open areas that allow guests enough room to mingle, along with workspace for kids doing homework or even a small kitchen workspace for paying bills or making phone calls.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Present your kitchen as an organized, clutter-free, versatile space that will help your buyers feel they could be productive and happy working and interacting in the heart of their new home.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">You don't need to completely makeover your kitchen to sell your home. Packing and storing extra kitchen pots, pans, and utensils generates a more spacious presentation. You may also wish to invest in an attractive portable kitchen island to use as a prop for a kitchen with an open center and insufficient counter space.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Consider easy, low-cost changes that instantly upgrade a kitchen without major remodeling. These include the following ideas:</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">1.) Replace your faucet with a fancier model.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">2.) Change your cabinet hardware.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">3.) Paint cabinet faces.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">4.) Replace or paint ugly laminate countertops. (Use Marine-grade paint.)</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">5.) Add warmth during cold seasons with a gorgeous rug next to the sink counter.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">No matter your makeover budget, prepare your home for sale with little changes like clearing the countertops, adding new dish towels, and a bowl of fruit. Make your kitchen entice a buyer to say, "This is my new home."</div><span><br />

<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">When it comes to interior decorating, bedroom design and decoration is considered to be one of the most important. Bedrooms have the tendency to be crowded easily because it is the part of the house where people stash the things that they don't want others to see. This is due to the fact that the bedroom is a private space of our home which is not open to public's eyes, so people tend to neglect it one way or another. The bedroom is our private sanctuary where we can relax and have a good rest after a busy day, so the issue of comfort needs to be addressed in order for that to happen. An overcrowded or cluttered room is not comfortable, so it is important that you know how to maximize the space in your bedroom, especially if it is small.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"></div><ul style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 2em; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">One of the largest piece of furniture in the bedroom is definitely the bed. Since space is the issue here, make sure that you get a bed that's appropriately sized in accordance to the size of the room. So if you have a small bedroom, it is not a good idea to have a king's size bed inside it since it will just take up a lot of usable space and make the room overcrowded.</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">It would be a good idea to assign areas of the bedroom to a specific function. Like in a certain corner you can assign a shoe rack and in another corner you can assign the laundry basket. Through area designation, you will be able to organize your things more easily.</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Another important element in saving space in the bedroom is the arrangement of the furniture. A good example is to arrange your bed next to the wall, sure it may be a slight inconvenience for the other person when climbing into bed but it is all worth it considering all the space that you can save. Just go and try experimenting with the furniture arrangement and you will be surprised with just how much space you can save.</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Another key to making your bedroom appear larger is to eliminate the clutter. And this can be done by having a creative and sufficient means of storage. Instead of opting for the traditional dressers and armoires which can be quite bulky, may be you can try using a furniture with a built-in storage system. Make good use of the top of your closet and under your bed as storage space for suitcases and other things.</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">If someone is sleeping over, you can opt to buy a futon which can double as a couch or sofa and a bed. Use it as a couch during the day and use it as a bed at night. It is indeed quite a neat piece of furniture.</li>
</ul><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"></div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Even if you have a small bedroom, it doesn't mean that you have to live with it in discomfort. There are many ways that can help you save space in the bedroom.</div><span><br />

It often becomes the most used, yet neglected room in the house. Even if you don't have the time or money, you can freshen up your bathroom's appearance--in just one weekend. Contemporary bathroom remodeling no longer has to be a major, time-consuming project.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; margin-bottom: 12.0pt;"><b><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Before You Get Started</span></b><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; margin-bottom: 12.0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Needless to say, when you're thinking about remodeling, you need to have a plan in place. Start with a thorough cleaning and get rid of everything that looks tired or worn. Replacing the shower curtain, for example, will cost only a few dollars and take just minutes--but it changes the entire look of your bathroom. Add a few new matching towels and voila(!)--your dingy bathroom will be bright and fresh again.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; margin-bottom: 12.0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Next, consider what parts are showing their age the most. Your bathroom faucets may be disintegrating, or your mirrors may have become cracked or too dirty to give a pleasing reflection. Make a list of the problematic areas and determine what your budget can bear--then decide what you want to fix this weekend and what can wait 'til later. Visit your local bathroom-supply store and fill up your cart with the things you want to replace as well as any tools you'll need to do the job.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; margin-bottom: 12.0pt;"><b><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">More Ideas for Freshening Up Your Bathroom in a Weekend</span></b><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><o:p></o:p></span></div><ul type="disc"><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; mso-list: l3 level1 lfo1; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; tab-stops: list .5in;"><b><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Try replacing your bathroom faucets.</span></b><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"> Many of the newer faucet systems are simple enough for a homeowner to replace. Head to your local hardware store or an online retailer for a kit that includes not only the hardware but installation instructions too. Make sure you understand them thoroughly you so you won't be left with a flooded bathroom when you're done--or another weekend repair project to undue the damage!<o:p></o:p></span></li>
</ul><ul type="disc"><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; mso-list: l2 level1 lfo2; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; tab-stops: list .5in;"><b><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Look into new bathroom mirrors.</span></b><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"> Hanging a new mirror that has a different frame, size, or shape can have an instant impact on your bathroom's overall appearance. It will provide not only a new focal point for the room, but also draw eyes away from any features you're unable to replace just yet.<o:p></o:p></span></li>
</ul><ul type="disc"><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo3; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; tab-stops: list .5in;"><b><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Painting the cabinets.</span></b><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"> Another idea for a quick renovation project is to consider painting or stripping your bathroom cabinets. If you have real wood cabinets, stripping and re-staining can take a single day, maybe two. Or you can paint over the existing color to give them a new personality. Neutral colors are best as they allow you to update other features to accommodate emerging trends.<o:p></o:p></span></li>
</ul><ul type="disc"><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo4; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; tab-stops: list .5in;"><b><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Painting the walls or trim.</span></b><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"> Nothing beats a fresh coat of paint to make a room inviting. Choose light colors to make a small bathroom feel more spacious, dark, vibrant colors to give a feeling of drama or intimacy. Experiment with a different color for the walls and any molding as a way of introducing a decorative accent, or try textured or patterned finishes. And just to be sure you've picked exactly the right color, don't rely on paint chips: instead buy a small quantity of whatever hue(s) you're considering, and paint a different 12"-18" piece of cardboard with each color. That will give you a much better sense of how the paint will actually look on the wall.<o:p></o:p></span></li>
</ul><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; margin-bottom: 12.0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Just as you might want to nip and tuck certain parts of yourself, your bathroom might be feeling the anxiety of aging too. But by adding just a few small touches, you can easily turn your bathroom from "blah" to "bravo" during a single contemporary bathroom-remodeling weekend.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"><br />

<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">When you consider selling your house it is important to execute minor and major home improvement ideas. These will help highlight the best features of the dwelling and increase its sale price. First impressions can make a strong impression. To increase the curb appeal of the house you will need to ensure that the garden and the yard are well-kept. You need to keep the grass mown, bushes trimmed and dry leaves cleaned away.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Energy bills account for a large chunk of a family's monthly bills. By taking steps to make your residence energy-efficient you increase the chances of getting a better resale value. You will want to look into issues such as insulation and tinting of windows. These will help keep the interiors cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">The color of the walls can make a room appear big or small. A fresh coat makes the interiors as well as exteriors look appealing. When you are ready to open your house to buyers, you should ensure that each room has minimal personal possessions. This makes it easier for people to envision the place as their own. You may like to put away some of your things into storage. This will make certain that the space available in the residence is shown off to the best effect. This is especially true of the floor and cupboard space.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">The kitchen and bathroom are key areas that will help increase the resale value of your dwelling. It is important that buyers do not cringe when they enter these areas in your home. Employ home improvement ideas that make the kitchen and bathrooms attractive. You can opt to replace the old sink and countertops with newer and more contemporary designs. The same can be done with the taps. Do ensure that there are no drips and leaks, and the plumbing is in great condition. Add energy-efficient light fixtures and extra storage cabinets to the bathrooms.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">You could choose to invest in a new deck or patio. Similarly, you can augment the space available in the residence by remodeling the basement or the attic. When you sell your house you need to focus on every nook and corner. This will help you choose home improvement ideas that will work well for the house. It will also need to be cleaned thoroughly and get rid of things that you do not intend to take to your new home.</div><span><br />

<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">"AREN'T YOU FINISHED YET!?"</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">The larger the project the longer it's going to take. At some point during the project everyone realizes the honeymoon is over and YOU wish "they'd get out!" At the beginning of a remodel things seem to go rather quickly, then a feeling of loss sets in; loss of control, loss of your home and loss of being able to continue your routine(s) as usual. The invasion of your private space and the dirt created are sometimes unbearable.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">The best way to prevent this is to be prepared.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Get set and psyched up for the inconvenience this will cause. A remodeling project turns your home, and sometimes your life, upside down. Depending on the project, be prepared to set your kitchen up in the laundry room or plan on the whole family using one bathroom for the duration.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Make sure you've "secured" a safe space in your home where you can escape.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Make sure either you or the contractor guards against dust as much as one can guard against dust. It does tend to get into places you'd never think of.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">1. Seal off doorways.<br />
2. Turn off central air and heat while sanding is happening and keep extra filters on-hand.<br />
3. Designate one entrance where deliveries can be made.<br />
4. Make sure all bare floors and carpets are "draped" out thoroughly and completely. Covering all flooring and pathways can prevent the tracking of dirt throughout the home.<br />
5. Have an upfront conversation about cleaning - when will it happen, how thoroughly and how often? Will the contractor or one of their crew do it or should you get your cleaning service to handle it?<br />
6. Keep your sense of humor. Remember that many parts of a remodel are out of your control and laughing can keep you from blowing up or losing it; and help you to have an honest conversation about what's disturbing you. It's all about clarity.<br />
7. See this as an adventure. Celebrate each finished stage of the project. In the long run you can control how you feel about things even if you cannot control the time frame. This will translate to a happier family and better working conditions as well.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Remember, it takes how long it takes and if you've had that conversation prior to starting the job it will make a huge difference when you want to know, "Aren't you finished yet!?" It's like taking the kids on vacation and hearing continually "Aren't we there yet?" You must exercise patience with the kids just like you must exercise patience during your home improvement project - both with yourself and the workers</div><span><br />

Prospective buyers will look at your bathroom as though they were in a public restroom if it's not clean, functional, and stylish. What you want is the buyer to feel as if they are entering their own home, not a messy public restroom.<br />
<br />
I can't tell you how many times I've gone to a public restroom and turned around and left without using it. Or how unsafe I felt when I did use it after I've stepped over paper hand towels and other debris on the floor of a public stall. Or I've gotten to the sink and half the faucets didn't work and pink goop was beneath the soap dispenser. You get the picture.<br />
<br />
Here are the absolute, 7 Must Do Bathroom Updates:<br />
<br />
1. Probably the most important thing you can do before any updates take place is to scrub the bathroom as if your health depended on it. Use an old toothbrush to clean tile grout, cracks and crevices and around fixtures. That's what your prospective buyers expect--squeaky clean.<br />
<br />
2. If there is a theme wallpaper, remove it. You don't want to limit your prospects to only those who may have your taste. Paint in a neutral tone and rely on accessories that can be removed for added color.<br />
<br />
3. If there is no wallpaper and cleaning the walls can not restore them to a satisfactory finish, by all means, paint them. Ditto on the neutral paint.<br />
<br />
4. Check all faucets, spigots, shower head, and under sink pipes for leaks.<br />
<br />
5. Change faucet washers, if needed, if the fixtures are still in good shape and are not outdated.<br />
<br />
6. If faucets and spigots are showing wear or dated, change them.<br />
<br />
7. Change shower head and upgrade to something more stylish, such as a rain shower head or a multi-spray nozzle, depending on the value of your home.<br />
<br />
The bathroom is the one room used by family, friends, neighbors, and the occasional stranger. People want new bathrooms even in old houses. So, whether your house is modern or vintage, cleanliness can give the appearance of new. Don't discount this. Good hygiene, is at the top of the list of a bathroom's first impression.<br />
<br />
The bathroom is also the room that buyers least want to invest in renovating when they're looking for a new home.<br />
<br />
So, follow these suggestions about bathroom updates and you are not only likely to sell your house, but you are more likely to get a full-price offer.<br />
<br />

Did you know that the next weekend chore that rolls around could have you chomping at the bit with excitement ready to get started on your weekend home improvement project, if you do it right!<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; margin-bottom: 12.0pt;"><b><span style="color: #333333; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">It's All In Your Head</span></b><span style="color: #333333; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";"><o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; margin-bottom: 12.0pt;"><span style="color: #333333; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">The best way to approach any weekend home improvement project is to do it with excitement. Your mind is a powerful, thing, so use it in a positive way. Say to yourself, this is going to be fun and very worthwhile. Make a game out of it and reward yourself with something nice when you complete your goals.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; margin-bottom: 12.0pt;"><b><span style="color: #333333; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Planning For Some Fun Time Will Guarantee Success</span></b><span style="color: #333333; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";"><o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; margin-bottom: 12.0pt;"><span style="color: #333333; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Next time you have maintenance or remodeling jobs to do around the house you should create some fun things to do too. Maybe you could have some close buddies over for a cookout or ask them to join in on the project and you'll generously serve the meal. Make it a pleasant event rather than a job, and see what happens. The best way to do this is to prepare some solid plans and then look forward to the event.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; margin-bottom: 12.0pt;"><b><span style="color: #333333; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Break Big Jobs Up</span></b><span style="color: #333333; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";"><o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; margin-bottom: 12.0pt;"><span style="color: #333333; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">If the job at hand is a rather daunting task, you may want to break it up into bite size accomplishments. That way you will not dread the weekend home improvement project when it comes around. Make a list of all the tasks that need to be completed and then prioritize them accordingly. Maybe you could even hire out a couple of the dirty jobs, and enjoy the weekend home improvement project even more. The key thing is, to not get burned out by trying to get everything done in one shot. Doing your own relaxing therapy in an easy-to-install tub or sauna that matches the landscaping of your home could be an excellent way to heal your skin, relax your muscles, and relax your mind.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;"><br />

If you have others with whom to relax and enjoy the experience, it will be all the more a relaxing experience. A hot tub or sauna is a great place to have relaxing discussions. Physical and mental health professionals, as well as natural healing practitioners, have prescribed the use of saunas and hot tubs for a variety of health conditions for many years.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;"><br />

As more and more wealthy people began purchasing them for home convenience, economies of scale have kicked in and made home saunas and hot tubs affordable relaxation therapy conveniences for the middle class. It is so much easier to get away for a 10-minute soak in your tub or sauna after a hard day at work when it's just right in your property.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;"><br />

For safety reasons, you should look for a package deal that includes professional gas, water, and electricity hookups. This is true even if you go with a portable unit. Take note that built-in units tend to be more durable and less noise polluting, but more expensive to repair or replace.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";"><br />

<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Thousands of homeowners all over the globe want to own a house that captures the attention of passersby. An older house that undergoes a makeover can bring back its original beauty or even exceed the curb appeal of the original home. One of the most crucial aspects of any building is the rooftop. This is the part most likely to be seen by people, even at a distance. For anyone who strives for perfection, the chance of having a new and better looking roofing system installed on a building can be a lifetime achievement.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">This new structure can add exceptional beauty to the exterior that can deliver a feeling of pride in such an appearance. Because of the advances in technology within the construction industry, a structure can be built that not only has a catchy, unique design but also has a great ventilation system. There exists the capability to give any house quality and efficiency while adding attractiveness and elegance via the addition of a brand new roof.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Because a roof is one of the more expensive parts of a building structure, it is essential to choose the best possible structure that meets any budget plan.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><strong>Choose a Design</strong></div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Knowing budget allowances for a new structure, a roof design can be selected to achieve whatever look is desired for the house. Many people elect to match the design of the roof to the exterior of the home. Material selection is a similar process with many also selecting materials that match the exterior of the home to give it a great curb appeal as well.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">There are several things that can be done when designing this new structure that covers the top of a home. First, try to picture a three-dimensional image about the style of the roof at different angles then match it with various aspects of the home's interior and exterior. Choose a design that looks appealing and attractive at first glance.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><strong>Choose a Color</strong></div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">The true beauty of a home can be complimented by choosing a color that suits each home's own character. Roofing material comes in a variety of colors from which to select the product and the color that best suits each individual house. This might be a good time to ask for ideas from a contractor to be sure that the choice is the right color for the style and design of the roof as well as the house.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><strong>Choose a Style and Shape</strong></div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">For a house that stands out from the crowd, make something that fulfills that desire rather than something that is popular and stylish in design magazines. There are six different styles and shapes from which to make a selection. Each one of them has various functions based on the each local region. To make a design truly unique, mix two or more roofing styles and shapes. This certainly will make a home unique and is bound to grab the attention of friends and neighbors. When all the renovations are complete, this new look will deserve and receive many second glances!</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><strong>Durability</strong></div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">One of the most common considerations when installing a new roof is its durability. It is important to think about not only about how the new structure will look; it is also valuable to consider how durable and functional it will be. How many years can this structure and the materials used last? Does it have the ability to resist the various kinds of roofing problems brought on by the power of Mother Nature?</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">When having a new roof installed on a house, it is always a prudent step to seek the advice of roofing professional. These contractors are trained and equipped to handle all aspects of roofing design and installation. Take years off the outer appearance of a home - give it a face lift with a new roofing system today!</div><span><br />

<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Moving into a new house can be quite an experience. You are totally in a new zone, surrounded by new ceilings and floors near stairs in an entire new layout. You want your home to look the best, so it's important to pick out the right kind of paint. Of course, in a single article, we can't show you absolutely everything that you need to know about moving into your new house, but we are going to try to give you some good tips on picking out a new house quality house paint.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">1. Match it. By new house paint is arty difficult as it is in, and you definitely don't want to paint your house a second time. Make sure whatever kind of house paint that you buy matches up with your existing paint. Maybe take a picture or find out exactly what kind of paint you have in your house right now so that when you go to the hardware store, you can show them exactly what you need.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">2. Buy high-quality paint. Take a look around at the different types of paint that are available for you to buy in the store. You will quickly notice that paint varies in quality drastically and you generally get way you pay for. Granted, you have to make sure that you're not getting ripped off and you really are getting a good deal, but if you are serious about making money on your house, try to buy the best type of paint that you can afford.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">3. Ask a professional. It's okay if you don't know everything about home remodeling. Some people do it for a living. Builders, contractors, subcontractors and other home decorators might be able to give you some words of wisdom and help that you might not be able to get otherwise. Don't be afraid to ask. Just ask them for a little help and you might be able to save yourself some time and headaches.</div><span><br />

<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">One of the best ways to increase the value of your home is to improve the bathrooms. Here's a primer on things to consider.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Sinks</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Villeroy and Boch makes a sink that mimics a boulder worn into a bowl by water flowing into it. It can be quite handsome in a minimalist home or a rustic one. You can see it and others at villeroy-boch.com.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Concrete Jungle makes some dramatically simple concrete sinks and vanities that surprisingly look very modern, or very farm-house. Check concretejungleonline.com if that idea appeals.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Walker Zanger's designs include a perfectly simple sink in white marble for a dressier look. They also have a sturdy dark wooden "table" base that gives it dramatic contrast. You might enjoy visiting walkerzanger.com for more ideas.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Showers</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">A shower separate from the tub is one of today's favorite luxuries. Some of them have been designed to feel like rain (at least part of the time). Dornbracht has one called "RainSky M" which can be checked out at dornbracht.com.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Large frameless (or nearly frameless) glass shower enclosures are showing up in more and more homes. MAAX makes a line of showers with features like overhead "waterfall" systems, hand held shower heads, and body sprays coming from the side that work well in a frameless enclosure.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">I helped a family sell a home with a very interesting master bath not too long ago. It had a shower much like the one described above, but it was designed for two people. It looked like a glass room "floating" inside the large bathroom.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Tubs</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">As for tubs. Well. Would you believe a tub in an arched tile niche with a gas log fireplace at its foot? Believe it. Can you imagine a nice long soak while listening to flute music and sipping chilled champagne? (James Bond can keep his martini.)</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Then there are the Acryline tubs which employ warm air hydro-massage to counter the effects of the daily rush-grab-dash of life. Explore their therapy theory at acrylineusa.com.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">You get the idea. Updated means simple. It does not mean blah. It does mean coddled. It can give you and your family pleasure and comfort while you live in your home. It can increase your home's sale value. You'll be tempted, but don' overbuild your neighborhood with the Taj Mahal of bathrooms if you want to be pleased with the result when you sell.</div><span><br />

<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">What does the term "weekend project" do to you? Does it fill you with kittenish delight? Or does it make your chest feel like someone's sitting on it?</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Weekend projects don't typically take the entire weekend. Of the literally dozens of potential home improvement project that you could tackle over a weekend, here are five quick and easy ones that won't take you away from enjoying your weekend.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><strong>Unclog the showerhead</strong>: If the water pressure during your morning showers has been declining steadily, you might need to clear up mineral buildup on the showerhead.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Get some distilled white vinegar, a rubber band and a plastic bag. Place the showerhead in the plastic bag that's filled with vinegar, and tie it shut with the rubber band. After soaking overnight, your showerhead should be void of any mineral buildup, and since vinegar is a natural cleaner and disinfectant, you won't be harming the environment.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><strong>Install energy-efficient light bulbs</strong>: A lot of us have already done this one to some extent. Both compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs and light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs are gradually coming down in price, making them an even more worthy investment.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">This doesn't really get much easier. Unscrew the old, inefficient incandescent bulb. Replace with new, super-efficient bulb. Rejoice in the money and energy savings.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><strong>Install LED under-cabinet lighting</strong>: I've talked about this one before, and it bears repeating. The counter area beneath your kitchen cabinets is an ideal place for lighting. This cost-effective and energy-efficient upgrade will rejuvenate the look of your kitchen.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">After a bit of planning (how many LED discs and mounting brackets do you need, for example), this job shouldn't take you more than two or three hours-even less if you have a helping hand.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><strong>Update your kitchen with a new faucet</strong>: You might be surprised at the difference a new faucet can make in your everyday life in the kitchen. And with a massive selection of next-generation <a href="http://www.build.com/kitchen-faucets/c68865?source=smez_weekend_kfaucets" rel="nofollow" style="color: #1900ff;" target="_new">kitchen faucets</a> available (water-efficient and pull-out fixtures, for example), it's well worth investing an hour or two to install one.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">A number of plumbing manufacturers have simplified the installation process with fixtures that can be put in quickly and easily by even the most inexperienced layman.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><strong>Flush your water heater</strong>: When I first saw this project, I immediately put it on my must-do list. It had me at improved efficiency. This is a twice-a-year project that's surely worth the effort.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">This is a multi-step process so for the skinny on how to flush your water heater, visit the blog at ConsumerReports.org.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Until next time, Happy Home Improving!</div><span><br />

<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">A lot of people who remodel their homes opt to upgrade from Formica counter tops to something more luxurious. When the biggest issues are quality and appearance, there's something on the market that's fast overtaking granite for the upgrade of choice.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Silestone counter tops offer some of the same perks as granite, but many believe they are more beautiful and durable. Silestone counter tops are made out of natural quartz. With the ranking as the fourth hardest mineral in nature being held by quartz, these counter tops are known and loved for their durability. Beyond that, however, silestone counter tops are also quite beautiful.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">With quartz as the main ingredient in these counter tops, the end result is a surface that's simply breathtaking to behold. Master craftsman have managed to make these countertops work into a rainbow of colors, too, ensuring that homeowners can pick the style and design they choose. The properties of quartz enable the creators of these counter tops to make them as shiny or flat as a buyer might desire, putting choice squarely in the hands of the consumer.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Silestone countertops are some of the best choices on the market for stain and scratch resistance, as well. With only a few minerals tougher than quartz, doing damage to these counter tops is almost impossible.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">The advantages of silestone counter tops over other similar natural stone surfaces include:</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">* Strength. It's incredibly hard to damage a silestone counter. Since quartz is so durable, the end product doesn't require maintenance beyond cleaning. There is no need to worry about sealing the countertop.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">* Luster. Silestone is all natural by design. This means there are no plastics involved in their creation to cause problems with scratches or scorches. With this in mind, the silestone surface can be as shiny or matte as a buyer might want.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">* Durability. It's a simple fact that silestone tends to resist scratches and burns better than just about anything under the sun. This can be great for those who want a beautiful kitchen that will stay that way. The sad reality is those who buy synthetic counters tend to regret it down the road when scratch and score marks become permanent fixtures.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">* Decorating choices. Silestone counter tops are made by a company that specializes in quartz working. This means it's possible to get counter tops of quartz that will go well with similarly designed floors and even bathroom counters. In addition, the color palette provided in Silestone is pretty impressive. Just about any hue imaginable can be found in these countertops.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Granite might be the choice for some, but others opt for Silestone counter tops for a whole host of reasons. Coming from one of the world's hardest stones, these countertops are not only beautiful, they are durable. Offering choices for not only kitchen counters, the designs found in silestone transfer to floors and other counter surfaces, as well. This makes silestone a great choice for uniform decorating. The counter tops might be more expensive that other options, but when it comes to providing lasting beauty, they are hard to beat.</div><span><br />

<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Everyone loves a fireplace aglow with a roaring fire or flickering embers. But your fireplace need not be a gaping empty hole--like a picture frame without a picture---those times you choose not to have a fire.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">As you look over these ideas, you'll recognize any that will need to be adapted if you have young children or pets with access to the fireplace.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"></div><ul style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 2em; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Ivy Basket: A lovely basket filled with a thriving ivy plant adds a touch of nature to your room. Let the ivy trail onto the hearth to keep the look informal.</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Autumn Vegetables: In the fall, create an arrangement of pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn, and silk leaves in autumn colors. Set some of your vegetables on upturned wooden bowls to vary their heights.</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Pine Cones: An arrangement of pinecones of varying sizes, displayed in a large basket, wooden bowl, firewood basket, or even an old washtub works well for a causal country décor. Scatter some of the pinecones around the container, too.</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Pottery Jug & Dried Plants: For another country autumn look, display a large pottery jug in your fireplace, and around it make a loose arrangement of intertwined, dried grapevine. Mingle some other clusters of dried plants into the grapevine. Dried baby's breath, for example, keeps the look open and airy.</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Poinsettias: Blooming poinsettias, especially ones so large they practically fill the fireplace, look stunning during the winter. Depending on your room, the white ones may be even more dramatic than the red ones. Put smaller potted poinsettias on the hearth.</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Tropical Vignette: Let your fireplace provide the frame for a tropical retreat vignette when summer rolls around. With a piece of driftwood, display large seashells and colorful glass fishing balls--some perched on the driftwood or on white candle holders to give them height.</li>
</ul><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"></div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">The truly venturesome might set these goodies on a base of rippling white sand.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"></div><ul style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 2em; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Party Balloons: Party time? Inflate balloons in keeping with your party's color scheme. Load the fireplace full of the balloons (not helium ones!), using the fireplace screen or glass doors to hold the balloons in place.</li>
</ul><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"></div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Tie the ribbons of three helium balloons to a heavy object, such as a wrapped brick wrapped as a "present," at either side of the fireplace.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"></div><ul style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 2em; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">New Year's Vignette: When it's time to ring in New Year, first tape two taut strings inside your fireplace, above where they will be visible. Run each one from a front corner to the opposite back corner, so the strings form an X.</li>
</ul><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"></div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Unroll one-fourth inch wide white, silver, and black party streamers and drape them over the strings so they dangle down at varying lengths into the fireplace. Next, unroll more streamers and casually spread a deep pile onto the fireplace floor.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Now add the appropriate props: champagne bottles and glasses, party hats and horns, a large clock set at almost midnight, or metallic numerals of the New Year. To raise some object, set them on boxes hidden under the streamers.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"></div><ul style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 2em; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Fresh Flowers: There's no time of year when a large bouquet of fresh flowers set in your fireplace won't look great. Forget the silk ones, though. Let's not kid ourselves that our guests will continue to assume that they are real when they've seen them time and again.</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Fireplace Candelabra: But, if you're like many of us who feel that a fireplace just needs the flicker of fire to look its best, consider a fireplace candelabra, a candle holder designed specially for your fireplace. You can have a fireplace aglow with light without a single stick of firewood in sight or the expense of gas logs.</li>
</ul><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"></div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Some fireplace candelabras are slim enough to fit in front of your existing andirons and grate while others are make to fill your empty fireplace. Select candles for your fireplace candelabra in colors that accent your room or set a holiday's or party's color scheme.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Plus, you can even match the fireplace candles' scents to the season or event! Think, for example, pumpkin and spice for Thanksgiving, vanilla or apple spice to elicit a "homey" feel, and lemon for a crisp summer scent.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">So, your fire-less fireplace need not be a Black Hole after all! You can make your fireplace, the natural focal point of your room, worth looking at even when there are no burning logs.</div><span><br />

<div style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">This is the year you're going all out. You're going to build a deck, add a porch, erect a gazebo or lay a patio. You've done the research. It's well within your capability and you're looking forward to the satisfaction of creating a structure of beauty.</div><div style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Or not. Yes -- you'd like to proceed with an outdoor structure but for you, it isn't a do-it-yourself project. How can you find the right person to do it for you? Here are 10 tips for hiring and working with a contractor.</div><div style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">1. Plan your project carefully. Clip pictures, make sketches, write a description. This will help you accurately convey to the contractor what you want the finished product to be.</div><div style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">2. Make a list of contractors. Ask your neighbors or friends for the names of reputable tradesmen. Contact material suppliers -- lumberyards, for example -- and ask for recommendations.</div><div style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">3. Get at least three written bids for the project, but don't give in to the temptation to automatically accept the lowest bid. A higher bid may be worth the price in better materials, workmanship and reliability. If you get a very low bid, the contractor may have made a mistake or forgotten to bid on everything you wanted. If they have deliberately low-bid, they may use cheaper materials or take shortcuts to make a profit.</div><div style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">4. Many states and provinces require registration and/or licensing. For the USA, <a href="http://www.nationalcontractors.com/" rel="nofollow" style="color: #1900ff;" target="_new">http://www.nationalcontractors.com</a> provides a starting point for your state and type of construction. Click on Verify Contractors License. If licences are required in your jurisdiction, be certain to ask to see your contractor's licences and be sure that it's not expired.</div><div style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">5. Ask for references and then check them out. Look at the projects and ask the previous clients if they are satisfied with the quality of work done, if it was started and completed on schedule and if it is complete.</div><div style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">6. Get a signed, written contract and be sure you understand it. The Construction Contractors Board of Oregon claims that the single biggest cause of homeowner-contractor disputes is the written contract: not having one, having a poor one, or having one everyone ignores. A good contract should include:</div><div style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"></div><ul style="font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 2em; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">The company name, address (not a post office box) & phone number, the name of the builder, contractor and licence number, if applicable</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">A detailed project description</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">A materials list</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">A statement that all necessary permits and inspections are the responsibility of the contractor</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Starting and completion dates</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Warranties of workmanship, the length of the warranty, and specifically what's covered and what's not</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Contractor's guarantee that he carries liability insurance and worker's compensation coverage</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">A statement that clean-up will be done by the contractor</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">The total price and payment schedule<ul style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 2em; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Be wary of hourly, time and materials or cost-plus pricing where the final price is not determined until completion of the project. Although it may seem higher, a fixed price may give you the best protection and price.</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Be cautious about upfront payments for more than 15% of the contract price.</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">The schedule and criteria for each instalment should be clearly defined in the contract.</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Any instalments should be not be required on a certain date, but correlated to work completion.</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Do not pay cash. A reputable builder will ask for a check.</li>
</ul></li>
</ul><div style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"></div><div style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">7. Make any changes to the project in writing with a "work order change" to avoid misunderstandings and surprises.</div><div style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">8. Keep pets and children away from the construction site. This will ensure not only their safety, but also that of the workers. In addition, it helps keep the project on schedule.</div><div style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">9. Inspect the work regularly.</div><div style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">10. Pay directly and promptly according to the contract.</div><div style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Above all, you should feel comfortable communicating with your contractor. If you sense he is being evasive when you are getting a quote, it won't get any better during the construction period. Find someone you understand and who understands you, and who is open and forthright.</div><div style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Working with a contractor takes a little preparation, but following these steps is well worth it. Are you looking forward to your new outdoor space?</div><br />

<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Interior Design is the single best experience in my life that has allowed me to experience fantastic creative energy each and every day. I must admit, however, that the move towards "Green Living Design" sometimes has me pulling my hair out.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Don't get me wrong, I've written many an article about the coming boon in Green Living Design and how we, as Designers, must be at the forefront of the movement. With that being said, I find that many of my clients often look at me with that "Deer in the headlight" look when I even casually mention the Green aspect of a Design element for their new home or addition.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">It is not that most folks don't care; They do. It is that most feel that they are being handed a bill of goods because something is trendy or fashionable at the moment and can not have any direct implications on their lives in the present. "Going Green" is something that the Hollywood crowd does, not the average consumer.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">That used to be true and, yes, in some quarters of "Green Design, " it still is. However, I have found that there are common elements that, if mentioned correctly, everybody can get behind from a Green standpoint.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">So, what are the basic elements of some solid Green Living Design that most can see using in their lives? I will touch on four that if you are remodeling or building, can be done in that part of the design; Heating/Air units, HVAC, Wall design, Insulation elements and, finally, Door and Window design elements.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">There has been an emergence of systems that use a "Forced Air" feature known as radiant space heaters. Many builders like the aspect of forced heating in that it eliminates a huge chunk of the duct work that must be used in a home design. Some builders, and many fire departments, like the aspect of a lower amount of duct work as it sometimes can aid in the spread of fires in a home.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Wall design has become something of interest, as of late, with the rising cost in energy prices. A lot of builders are liking the idea of walls that are a bit thicker in an exterior build. Many are looking at 12-inch-thick exterior walls with a high R value, which is the rating given a substance's thermal resistance. That gives you better energy values, and combined with better Green materials that go inside the walls, this could save a homeowner substantial money in overall energy cost.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Insulation elements continue to increase in the "Green" factor with some great cellulose insulation options available to consumers. Some of these ratings are as high as R-60, in some cases, and can greatly reduce the cost of running your home when it comes to energy.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Finally, doors and windows. This category is the one that seems to get the lease resistance from homeowners looking at new design elements. It seems that the industry has really taken the lead in this category by just explaining to the consumer, in terms that make total sense, that these design features can and will save them money. It seems that most homeowners have had a face-to-face confrontation with the dastardly windows and doors in their homes and immediately "Get it" when it comes to dealing with them. Still, some of the better energy saving features come at a price and can make many a home owner grimace when handed the bill.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">So, there you are. Four design elements that are loaded with "Green Value," as I like to call it. Excellent ways to be a little more conscious about the environment in any Interior Design elements that you are considering and will help you move towards that ever elusive Green Living Design.</div><span><br />
